As many of you are already aware, there has been an ongoing, initially intermittent, issue with phone service since Saturday (9/25). This is not a local issue; it is happening on a global scale. Bandwidth.com, a major communications backbone provider, has experienced a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. Federal agencies in the US, Canada, and numerous other nations are responding to the attack along with providers (like BTS) up and down the chain. So far, this has affected the likes of Microsoft, Verizon, Google Voice, and a host of other backbone providers and services. Bandwidth.com is a top 3 provider of dial tone. The extent of this attack is far reaching, more so because of the level of interconnectedness inherent in communications networks. We are working to mitigate the impact, though much of this will rely on the response from Bandwidth.com and Federal agencies. We will keep you updated as we have more information. We are currently exploring alternatives and failover possibilities in case of a repeat event. If you have any issues or questions please contact service@askbts.com Sincerely, The BTS Team |
