Services Disruption

As you all know bad actors have targeted backbone carrier communications over the last few days. The “cyber-attack” is still ongoing. While some are significantly impacted – others are impacted only sporadically. Virtually everyone is experiencing disruptions to some degree. The good news is that State-Level Authorities along with Carrier Technical Teams are actively mitigating the situation and progress is being made.

We are actively working with hundreds of other service providers across the country to monitor the situation and look at possible steps to alleviate the impact and provide alternative solutions. At this time, we understand mitigation steps taken by the backbone carriers are starting to work and we are seeing some reduction in impact and more calls being completed and fewer voice quality issues. However, there are still intermittent issues.

A few recommendations to help:

  1. If your incoming calls are answered by Automated Attendant with “dial an extension or Press 1, 2.. options” you may want to migrate to “live answer” until the cyber-attack is completely resolved. Touch-Tone signals are not processing accurately and may be preventing callers from reaching someone. If you would like to make this change, please contact our Service Center at Service@askBTS.com.
  2. When you have a customer on the phone make sure to get a callback number. Outbound calls are being routed in a manner to minimize impact, and a callback (if needed) appears to be a good bit more reliable. You may even want to temporarily start taking messages and have your employees return calls.

Summary

While this is a challenging situation, we are continuously monitoring the issue and working with our carrier partners to mitigate the issue as quickly as is possible.

Please email us if we can assist with your office and any needed telephone system changes.
